HIP, KNEE & HAMSTRING PAIN ACUPUNCTURE · WATERLOO
Hip, knee or hamstring pain making it hard to move comfortably?
Whether it’s a deep ache in your glute, pain where your hamstring meets the bottom of your pelvis, soreness along the hamstring, or hip or knee pain that makes walking, stairs or exercise uncomfortable, acupuncture may help you move with less pain and more ease.
HIP, KNEE & HAMSTRING PAIN CAN SHOW UP IN DIFFERENT WAYS
Does this sound familiar?
Hip, leg and knee pain isn’t always easy to put a name to. You might feel a deep ache in your glute, pain where the hamstring meets the bottom of your pelvis, soreness through the back of your thigh, pain on the outside of your hip, or an achy knee that bothers you when you move.
Knee pain may show up with walking, stairs, squatting or exercise — or as stiffness and soreness when you first get up from a chair. Sometimes the knee is the main problem; other times the hip, glute or thigh seems to be part of the picture too.
Pain patterns I commonly see:
• Deep glute or buttock pain
• Pain where the hamstring meets the pelvis
• Hamstring strains and recurring hamstring pain
• Knee pain around the front, inside or outside of the joint
• Knee pain with walking, stairs or exercise
• Knee stiffness, weakness or pain
HOW ACUPUNCTURE MAY HELP
The painful spot isn’t always where I start.
When your hip, knee or hamstring is already sore, I’ll often begin with acupuncture points away from the painful area. This lets us treat without repeatedly poking at an area that may already feel irritated or sensitive.
Because the painful area is left free, we can often check the movement that bothers you — walking, bending, lifting your leg or stepping up — while the needles are still in and see how your body responds.
Sometimes I’ll use points closer to where you hurt. Other times I’ll stay completely away from it, or change the approach from one visit to the next. I’m not attached to one formula — your treatment is guided by how your body responds.

IS ACUPUNCTURE RIGHT FOR YOUR HIP, KNEE OR HAMSTRING PAIN?
Hip, knee or hamstring pain that keeps getting in your way?
Some people come in after a specific injury — a pulled hamstring, a sore knee after activity, an awkward movement or a sudden flare-up. Others have pain that seems to have crept in gradually: a deep ache in the glute, pain where the hamstring meets the bottom of the pelvis, soreness along the hamstring, or an achy, stiff or temperamental knee.
You might notice it most when climbing stairs, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, exercising or getting up from a chair. You may have been given a diagnosis — or you may simply know that something hurts and keeps getting in the way.
You don’t need to know exactly what’s causing it before coming in. We can start with where you hurt, what movements bother you and what you’d like to get back to doing.
