SCIATICA ACUPUNCTURE · WATERLOO
Sciatica keeping you from doing what you love?
Whether it’s pain through your glute and leg, a sharp or burning sensation, or an ache that keeps coming back, acupuncture may help you move more comfortably and get back to your everyday life.
SCIATICA CAN SHOW UP IN DIFFERENT WAYS
Sciatica can feel different from person to person. You might notice pain starting in your low back or glute and travelling down your leg, or it may feel more like burning, tingling, aching or a sharp, electric pain.
It might bother you most when sitting, driving, bending, walking or getting up after being in one position for too long.
Does this sound familiar?
Sciatica I commonly see:
• Pain through the glute and down the leg, sometimes into the calf or foot
• Burning, tingling or aching pain
• Pain that’s worse with sitting or driving
• Pain with bending or getting up from sitting
• Recurring sciatic pain and flare-ups
• Leg pain associated with low-back tension or stiffness
HOW ACUPUNCTURE MAY HELP
A different way to approach sciatica.
With sciatica, the painful area can already feel irritated and sensitive. I often use acupuncture points away from where you’re hurting, so I don’t necessarily need to needle directly into your sore back, glute or leg.
Because the painful area is left free, you may notice pain easing or movement opening up while the needles are still in.
At the end of each treatment, I’ll check your pain and movement again. The changes I see help guide your next treatment.

IS ACUPUNCTURE RIGHT FOR YOUR SCIATICA?
You don’t have to wait until it gets really bad.
Some people come in after a sudden flare-up that makes sitting, walking or getting comfortable difficult. Others have been dealing with sciatic pain that settles down for a while, only to keep coming back.
Acupuncture may be worth considering if the pain keeps returning, travels into your glute or leg, limits how comfortably you move, or is starting to get in the way of work, sleep, exercise or the things you enjoy.
